Workshop Presenter – Mercedas Taaffe-Cooper
Using Reality Therapy in Combat Sport To Help Teens Fight Against Depression and Anxiety
We are excited to announce that Mercedas Taaffe-Cooper, a psychologist with a combat sport background, will be presenting at the upcoming Glasser Mental Health conference in September.
After accumulating many decades of experience as a professional athlete, combat coach and psychologist, Mercedas has created a unique method called CounterPunch, which combines combat sport with Reality Therapy to gives teenagers the tools they need to recognise and regulate their emotions in an engaging and interactive way.
In her presentation, she will be covering:
- The challenges teenagers face today with traditional forms of therapy
- Why physical fitness alone isn’t always enough to improve mental health in teens
- Why combining Reality Therapy / Choice Theory principles with combat sport is the perfect medium for teaching teenagers life skills such as emotional awareness and regulation
She’ll also be sharing some insights into the teenage brain and how parents can engage and communicate more effectively with their teens.
A truly unique application of Reality Therapy – Mercedas’ presentation is a must-see at the upcoming conference.
